Your wedding day is one of the most important days of your life and with all eyes on you it can cause anxiety. Read our top tips to help you calm down before walking down the aisle. Everyone deserves to enjoy their day!

Self-Care

Prioritise yourself before the big day. Little acts of self-care can help you remember the day is about you, your fiancé and what makes you happy. Adopting a skincare routine in the months running up to your day gives you some ‘me time’ whilst working towards having beautiful glowy skin on the big day.

Distract Yourself

Instead of sitting alone or with your partner and going over the ‘what ifs’, distract yourself. A long, romantic walk in the forest can help take your mind away from thoughts of the big day. If your guilty pleasure is reality TV or a good Netflix series, watch a few episodes to pause your racing thoughts, you’ll feel so much better afterwards.

Practice Makes Perfect

Take time to run through your vows and any speeches so you feel confident delivering them on the day. Practice in front of close family and friends, it’s definitely different presenting to an audience than reading in your head. That being said, don’t over do it, you’ll want to seem as natural on your special day as possible.

Make a List

If you’re ultra-organised and like to make lists, read our Last Minute Wedding To-Do List for some ideas to write your own. Having it down on paper will help you prioritise and make sure you don’t miss anything.

If your list is huge, don’t be scared to ask a few favours. Your close family and friends will likely be happy to help you out and run small errands to reduce some of the burden on you and your fiancé.

Coping Strategies

Performing anxiety-reducing exercises can naturally calm you. Remember to breathe, there are plenty of free apps which can guide you through breathing exercises. Visualisation is another useful tool to calm your nerves. Imagine yourself walking down the aisle, entering your reception, and throughout the speeches. If you do this enough, your brain will be familiar with the idea and you’ll do it all confidently.

Ask for Support

Talk about your feelings and let the people closest to you understand how you’re feeling. For example, if your Maid of Honour knows you’re worried about walking down the aisle, she can help you practice in your shoes to lessen your anxiety. Most importantly, let your fiancé know how you feel. They know you best so can help you calm your thoughts.

We hope this simple ideas can help you beat the anxiety you’ll inevitably feel before your wedding day. Remember, it’s your day and you want to enjoy it, so just relax!
