Real Wedding - Charlotte and Sam

We caught up with Sam & Charlotte after their Wedding in 2021 to find out the best bits of their big day…

What made you choose Over Barn for your Wedding?

We searched for a venue where we able to really make it our own and decorate it exactly how we wanted rather than be constrained with set styles and decor that we had seen at other venues. We loved the rustic look of the barn and it’s uniqueness and knew we would have a great time with our family and friends and also be able to get some great wedding photos in and around the barn. Lots of venues charge the earth for not a lot in return – we thought Over Barn was really reasonable with pricing and the different options and packages you could choose from were great rather than being really rigid with costs and forcing you to have certain options.

What was the inspiration behind your Wedding decor?

The decor for our wedding was all travel themed as we both love to go on holiday and since we’ve been together we’ve able to enjoy lots of amazing holidays. We wanted to bring our travel memories to the wedding so we had suitcase centre pieces, tables named after places we’d visited, our favour boxes were mini suitcases that opened for some sweet treats and an ‘in flight drink’, we had a map table plan, map flower tins and even our very own signpost in the courtyard that detailed countries visited and how far they were from the barn. With the help from some talented members of our families, we enjoyed making our own decorations.

How did the Wedding planning process go?

Apart from the postponement situation with covid, the planning process was great. We loved thinking about all the details, making decorations and getting excited about our day. Sam at Over Barn was a great help and always answered any questions we had and was on hand to let us have another look around when we wanted to and was just a great help in general in planning our wedding. It was helpful to have some recommended suppliers from Over Barn and working with Over Farm on our food was perfect as we wanted a relaxed dinner (BBQ) and they helped us with deciding what would work well etc. Everything really did seem to go smoothly and we couldn’t have asked for more.

What was the most memorable moment of your day?

The most memorable part of the day for me was having that half an hour to go off with Sam and have our photos as Husband and Wife. I loved spending the day with our family and friends but having that moment where it was just us with the photographer and videographer was really special and the surroundings of the barn made for great photos. Another memorable part of the day was the evening, dancing the night away, glow sticks in hand and around our heads, and looking around and seeing everyone just having the best time. Every part of the day was memorable for different reasons, we loved the whole day and it really was the best day ever for us that we often say we wish we could do again!

What advice would you give for other OB couples?

Enjoy the decorating! It’s a really unique experience to be able to say that you had an input on every last detail down to every decoration on your wedding day and something not many people would be able to say so just enjoy it! Also, Facebook marketplace is the best place to buy stuff that you want without spending a small fortune!
