If you’ve never been to a barn dance before you might not know how they work, we’ve put together this post to help you understand the ins and outs. Our Winter Barn Dances are back for 2021, they’re great for work Christmas parties!
The dancing
Quite simply, it’s an evening of dancing, singing and having a good time! The caller will encourage everyone onto the dancefloor. They will explain the moves for each dance, this is called a ‘walk through’. Guests will be given a chance to practice slowly so even if you have two left feet you’ll get the hang of it!
Some of the most common barn dancing moves include the ‘do-si-do’, ‘right and left star’ and ‘circle left’. These may sound complicated, but you’ll pick them up in no time (we promise)!
What to wear
To get into the true spirit of the barn dance, it’s fun to get dressed up. Think plaid shirts and a cowboy hat and boots, there’s loads of ideas on Pinterest if you’re stuck for inspiration! The main thing is comfort, you’ll want to put everything into the dancing so it’s no good wearing restrictive clothes. If you don’t want to go all out, keep it simple and pair a shirt with your favourite jeans.
Who’s a barn dance for?
Anyone, it’s all about the people! If you’re up for having some fun and making a bit of a fool of yourself, you’ll definitely enjoy yourself. The festive barn dances at Over Farm are popular for work Christmas parties or groups of friends looking for a good old knees up.
